Pillar Trim Buying Guide: Single Pieces, Pairs & Keypad Versions

Two black pillar moldings can look almost identical in a search result and still belong to different positions on a vehicle. Before ordering replacement pillar trim, identify the location, side, package quantity and any keypad opening. Use the product listing and your original part together; the model name alone is not enough.

1. Identify the location before the finish

Start with a photo of the whole area around the damaged piece, then take a close-up. Distinguish the outer windshield A-pillar molding from a front-door B-pillar panel or a rear-window C-pillar piece. A matching gloss-black finish does not make these parts interchangeable. Check whether the listing supplies the outer decorative molding, an inner support or a combination kit.

2. Choose one side or a left-and-right pair

A single-piece listing normally supplies only the stated side. A pair supplies two pieces, but you still need to check which two positions are included. Read the package contents instead of relying on the word “set” in a search result or an older catalog description. Use the left/right designation and the original part reference together.

For example, our listed GM SUV front-left B-pillar molding is one panel, identified by reference 926-241. The corresponding pair contains front-left 926-241 and front-right 926-242. A passenger-side panel is not included with the single-left listing.

3. Check the keypad configuration

If the driver-side trim has a door-entry keypad, compare the opening and surrounding shape before selecting a replacement. A plain panel is a different version. The Explorer pair linked below is specifically the no-keypad version; it should not be selected as a substitute for keypad-equipped driver-side trim.

Examples from the VeloCore catalog

These examples illustrate version differences, not a universal fitment chart. Open each listing for its full application details and exclusions.

Listing Package and position What to match
Explorer no-keypad B-pillar pair Left and right front-door B-pillar moldings 926-448 / 926-449; no-keypad configuration
GM SUV single-left B-pillar trim One front-left panel 926-241; original shape and mounting points
GM SUV B-pillar pair One front-left and one front-right panel 926-241 / 926-242; front-door location
Maxima outer A-pillar pair Left and right outer front windshield moldings 76837-9DD0A / 76836-9DD0A; not rear C-pillar trim
Maxima single-left A-pillar trim One outer front-left molding 76837-9DD0A; not a pair

4. Compare the reverse side and retainers

Compare the mounting profile, retainer locations and any original reference number with the product gallery. Similar-looking panels may use different attachment points. Check the package contents for clips or supports rather than assuming that every visible fastener is included. Avoid removing intact trim solely to find a number if doing so could damage it; ask a qualified installer for help.

5. Send the right details when asking for help

If the version is unclear, send your vehicle year, model, body style, the original part reference if available, a photo showing the location and close-ups of the old trim. Say whether you need one side or both and whether the vehicle has a keypad. Clear photos of the attachment points can help our team compare the listing with your existing part.

Before installation

Have a qualified installer compare the replacement with the original before removing the old component. Follow the applicable vehicle service procedure for retainers, supports and attachment methods. This guide helps with product selection; it is not an installation procedure or a guarantee that one trim piece fits every year of a model.
